Someone spoke with me yesterday and told me that he owns a Canon 7D but his photos never look anything like mine colour-wise. I told him that there’s a lot power in post processing. You can change the white balance and softly balance colours in shadows, midtones and highlights. The trick is to do this only very sublte until you achieve a pleasing effect.
For quicker work or for beginners, I also recommend the usage of preset styles. The so-called film styles are available both for Adobe Lightroom, e.g. from http://vsco.co/film and for Phase One Capture One, e.g. here: http://captureonestyles.com/
These presets are preselected values of sliders and it’s a good thing to use those before processing the raw file. Of course you can switch colours later in Photoshop, too, when editing your picture but I prefer to do it before I process my raw files.
