Pancake for Sony alpha

Dear lens manufacturers, I am looking for a decent pancake, preferably in the 20 – 30 mm range for my Sony alpha camera. It would be so handy on the go and make my A6300 camera ultra portable. So, please, anyone, come up with such a lens. I’ll buy it, I promise.

Here’s a follow up to my recent story of the parcel I sent out to Guatemala in 2014 that got returned 1,5 years later and had been sent out by me again… my book finally arrived in Guatemala. So cool!

Shoot like…

Viele Stunden Material. Hier gibt es mehr:

Two people reached out to me and asked if I knew of anyone who wanted to sell his copy of my book Frisky. In case anyone is tired of it and wants to sell it to someone from Belgium and Germany, please let me know and I will arrange direct contact between you.

At BIRTV in Beijing, SLR Magic were showing a new filter called the Image Enhancer Pro. What is so special about the Image Enhancer Pro is that it fixes IR pollution and colour shifts that occur in some digital cameras, particularly when you are using variable ND.

I am very much into typography. So every year when I create my calendar I choose the typeface that I use with a lot of thinking. For my 2017 calendar I used Jitzu Swash. Wow, what a lovely font.

Just editing my shooting playlist. I figured with these lyrics ‘… take off your clothes…’, this song needs to go in it:

This book is a camera

When I was a kid, I once had a popup book. It was really fascinating. So, when I stumbled upon this new one, I thought, I’d share it with you. A book that is a camera. And it actually works. What fascinates me, is the fact, that you can develop the photos using coffee. So cool.

Like all of my calendar images, the cover was also shot with daylight only. The beautiful model stands in front of a large window on an overcast day in June. Rain was just over and somehow this gave a sweet and flattering light. I absolutely love the natural sexyness Sabi has and as I wanted the cover photo to contain no nudity, I picked this picture. This girl will also play a role in my next book, but that’s all I can tell you right now.

Before and After

Attention smart shoppers

I feel pity for ‘Bieder 2307’. He won the auction for a print by an ‘unknown photographer’. The unknown photographer… *harrumph*… that’s me. And the photo being sold is from my series Rock ‘n Roll Refugee feat. Rubia, taken in 2014. Unfortunately, this print never existed. It is just a photo, saved from the above link at my website, enlarged to 21x29cm and printed out in poor quality.

Noone needs to buy illegal copies of my photographs. You can always buy prints directly by me in superb quality, always numbered and hand-signed – at a fair price.

Retouching Lesson

Here’s a free 50 minutes video by Joey Wright, including a RAW file to download. Joey shows how he shoots swimwear and what his retouching process is like. It’s very interesting to look over someone else’s shoulders, I believe. I have to admit, I jumped right to the retouching section, but see for yourself:

Lily Camera Drone

If I was to think of a drone to film behind the scenes of my work, Lily was doing the perfect job for me. Unfortunately I read a list of negative comments on Facebook about bad communication and delivery delays. Also the drone is planned to be shipped to the USA only. What a pity, the product looks promising:

I’ll keep an eye on the development…

Inverted High Pass Retouch

$

Here’s a quick reminder on how to retouch with inverted high pass in Photoshop. This works best when there’s a skin structure in a photo already.

  1. Make sure the image is 16bit.
  2. Copy the background layer twice, rename to blur and high pass.
  3. Use Gaussian blur on the blur layer with an amount that looks super smooth yet leaves contours.
  4. Select high pass layer and go to Image > Apply Image, select layer ‘blur’, check ‘invert’, blending mode ‘add’, scale ‘2’.
  5. Layer ‘blur’ won’t be needed anymore. Use Gaussian blur with one third of previous value on layer ‘high pass’ and invert your layer (Strg+i).
  6. Select ‘linear light’ for ‘high pass’ layer and add a layer mask (filled black). Now, draw with a white brush on the areas you’d like to apply the correction to.

See for yourself in this video tutorial by Marcin Mikus. Like him, I agree that you should not overdo the grain:
